Comprehensive biological restoration of a residential sewage treatment plant (STP) using high-performance bioculture solutions.

Project Overview

A large residential township located in Pune, Maharashtra, was facing recurring issues in its 250 KLD Sewage Treatment Plant (STP). The system suffered from poor MLSS development, excessive foaming, odour problems, and inconsistent BOD/COD levels. MotherEarth Biotech was engaged to restore and optimize the biological process using our flagship product SepTreat.

Challenges Identified

  • Unstable microbial activity and weak sludge settling
  • Excessive foaming due to unbalanced bacterial population
  • Odour generation in aeration and sludge tanks
  • High variation in treated water BOD (45–90 mg/L)
  • Frequent overflow and need for sludge removal every 15 days

Our Approach

After an initial site survey and lab analysis, a custom bioremediation plan was implemented:

  • Initiated bio-augmentation using SepTreat bioculture for aerobic digestion
  • Optimized dosing schedule based on inlet BOD/COD load and MLSS
  • Adjusted aeration timing and DO levels for microbial growth
  • Conducted operator training for consistent daily maintenance
  • Implemented odour control program in sludge and collection tanks

Implementation Timeline

The project was executed over a period of four weeks, broken down as follows:
